We did it again. Our first Litter Free Paddle in 2019 is completed.
The idea is simple really; Outdoor Explore is offering free paddling experience to anyone who wish to help us clearing Tayside waterways.
This project is running for nearly 5 years. In 2018 during 10 events like these and with help of nearly 150 volunteers we collected over 2 tonnes of rubbish!!!
On the 28th of April 2019 we were extremely fortunate to have a perfect weather for clearing Clunie Loch near Blairgowrie. Windless, sunny, quiet, full of wildlife. This venue is a true gem of Perthshire with unbelievably rich history. Join us one day, on the clear out here or a guided, bespoke kayak tour to find out more.

We started at 10am , on Sunday. This time is not a bank holiday so no campers, no loud music, not even a fishermen. A huge difference from the week before. A lot of rubbish await to be cleared away unfortunately though…
As #LitterFreePaddle events are getting more and more popular we can always count on amazing volunteers but also some local groups and organisations assisting us.
This time
A local community group offered some tea, coffee and cakes at a nearby
It was great to see, again, local councillor,
Finally over 25 volunteers, some as young as 6, travelled from so many places to help; Blairgowrie, Alyth, Dundee, Perth, Falkirk, Glasgow, Coupar Angus, Dunkeld…
Thank you all is simply not enough!

And it is all so simple really, isn’t it. Take your litter home folks!
I am pleased to see the local authority providing and emptying the bins around this loch but ideally if you brought it, you should take it away yourself.
A recent article in the Daily Records, 26th April 2109 highlights some of these issues –

This was our first Litter Free Paddle event this year. The nest one is on the River Tay in Perth, co-lead with Zero Waste Perth on the 11th of May. After that we are heading back to Clunie Loch on the 2nd of June. There are other dates and locations taking place through the summer and autumn.
Here is the list of upcoming events at Outdoor Explore:

Once more a HUGE thank you to all who helped us at Clunie Loch. Over 200kg of rubbish was collected in just under two hours. Epic! People are awesome…
